Four Moulton College horticulture students played a starring role on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday 18th September as part of a surprise garden makeover feature.
Emma Heap, Joel Nguyen, Florence Shine-Clarke and Sophie Bird were joined by This Morning presenter David Domoney as part of the makeover, which saw Corby-based viewer Becky’s garden being completely revamped as part of the show’s Front Garden Facelift segment.
Dubbed a ‘Mediterranean oasis’ by This Morning presenter, Cat Deeley, the students were joined by a crack team of helpers to kick off the makeover at the start of the show. Fast forward two hours and, by the end of the show, the previously plain front garden had been completely transformed, complete with lush grass, vivid flowers and even a palm tree to deliver Mamma Mia fan Becky’s dream space.
Moulton College was approached by producers from This Morning who were looking for some Northamptonshire-based garden design experts for the feature. The four students are all keen gardeners who are studying Moulton College’s Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) part-time course where they’ve been learning about garden design, plant identification and soil science among other topics.
The quartet were joined for the live show by Moulton College Horticulture and Garden Design Lecturer, Dr Annette Parkes.
Dr Parkes says: “We were delighted when we got the call to take part in This Morning. Emma, Joel, Florence and Sophie all did a marvellous job as part of the team that landscaped the viewer’s garden. They worked hard to produce an incredible end result in a short time and under pressure – all on live TV! The viewer, Becky, was delighted with her garden and we were happy to help out.”
Dr Parkes adds: “The RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture course is a practical-based qualification which equips learners with essential, hands-on skills, and is ideal for anyone looking to kickstart their career in horticulture or even those who simply enjoy gardening as a hobby.”
