Staff at Moulton College have participated in the production of an expert guide to Equine Swimming Exercise as part of their work within the Equine Hydrotherapy Advisory Panel (formerly the Equine Hydrotherapy Working Group).

The new publication ‘Equine Swimming Exercise – a guide for users’ is the first document of its kind and has been put together by leading Vets, academics and hydrotherapy centre experts from around the world in order to promote best practice. Endorsed by British Equestrian (BE) these guidelines provide recommendations on how to incorporate swimming exercise into a training or rehabilitation programme and advise on what to look for when swimming horses to ensure a horse’s well-being and to maximise the potential benefits of the exercise.

Equine Hydrotherapy Group (2020). Equine Water Treadmill Exercises: A guide for users

These guidelines are a fantastic step forward in promoting best practice for swimming horses. They are a culmination of work based on evidence from research and skilled user experience. It has been an immensely positive experience working with experts from around the world on these guidelines and I am proud to have been a part of it.
