A beautiful country pub, situated in the heart of a thriving small village. The manager’s recent approach has been to take The Sheaf right back to the heart of the village and the community with a friendly and welcoming team, great menus, and community events. As a pub that has been standing for well over 500 years, The Sheaf has been at the heart of our rather lovely village for quite some time. What we are looking for:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef Apprentice to join our hard working kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about food and eager to learn the ropes of the culinary world. As an apprentice, you will work closely with our experienced chefs, gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment while working towards your qualifications at Moulton College one day a week.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to our high standards.
  • Learn and understand all basic cooking techniques and methods.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, well-maintained, and organised.
  • Support the kitchen team in maintaining a high standard of food hygiene and safety.
  • Participate in menu development and contribute creative ideas.
  • Receive and store deliveries, ensuring all products are of high quality.
  • Adhere to portion and waste control standards to maintain profit margins.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for food and a desire to build a career in the culinary industry.

About Us – The Plough

Having been closed for nearly 3 ½ years, stage one of our multistage project to bring this Inn back to its former glory is now complete. From May-July 2023 we have lovingly restored the internal parts of the pub, original part shine again, artisan craftsman has seamlessly added to the fabric of the building and future proofed to ensure the pub remains the hub of the community for many years to come. The Plough had been awarded its first AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence in 2023, an award we have retained in 2024.

At AKS Carpentry no task is 'off the cards', we cover every aspects from kitchens to joisting and anything in between. The apprenticeship is for two years, you will work for four days and be in college for one day a week at Moulton College based in Higham Ferrers, where you will gain a Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery.

What we are looking for:

As part of our commitment to the long-term maintenance and restoration of the waterways, we are looking to recruit a Construction Apprentice specialising in brickwork.
Join us and you’ll be caring for your environment as well as your community, helping make life better by water for everyone.

What we are looking for:

As a Trust apprentice, you will complete your apprenticeship training both on and off-the-job, including regular attendance at our chosen training provider. You may be expected to stay away from home to attend training - all college related travel costs are paid for by the Trust.

Whilst on-the-job, you will work with supportive colleagues to get the best out of your apprenticeship experience. We regularly arrange placements for you to build your portfolio, as well as opportunities to work on projects. This involves working across our network, so you may be working away from home. No two days are the same!

A driving license or the willingness to achieve one within 12 months of starting (Driving is a mandatory part of our roles due to the breadth of our network)
