Foundation Learning students have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College. With specialist construction workshops for every area you will develop your communication and practical skills.

Guided by our expert staff you’ll use our construction workshops to develop your carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing skills with tailored modules. You will be learning in a small group (maximum 12). You will develop your communication and practical skills by taking on three construction trades across the year: building, tiling and wood work. You will also complete a Health and Safety unit.

We have included English and Maths study within the course, where you will develop your skills in a fun, interactive environment to prepare you for life after College.

Enhance your personal development with our tailored modules to help you prepare for adulthood and learn Personal Social Development skills.

You will develop your Maths and English by doing Functional Skills or standalone modules.

Hi-Vis and Work Safety Boots are required to undertake this course. All of our equipment is supplied by Baca.

You will spend a day and a half in the Construction area of the College where you will undertake practical sessions.

The rest of the time will be spent either at Pitsford or Main Site for theory based learning including Maths and English.

The work you undertake within lessons will be assessed by lecturers at the time and you will be given verbal and written feedback. You will be assessed on your practical construction skills and have to give verbal and written answer to questions. You may be asked to complete some work at home.

For Maths and English you will undertake Functional Skills or other appropriate written or computer based exams.

You can move to Level 1 courses within the Construction area of the college. You can also do the Supported Internship (if you have an EHCP).

No formal qualifications required but you will need to attend an interview to identify interests and support requirements

During your study skills lessons, you will learn the content of the health and safety CSCS test which includes environmental awareness and waste control. You will produce work on protecting native species and the safe disposal of waste that is hazardous to the environment and also have discussions on how to reuse construction materials and the benefits this has.
