As Horse Management students you will have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College, including access to all of the college horses, riding once a week and will regularly be on the professional equine yard working with other students, commercial staff and lecturers.

The Equine Centre comprises of a 60m x 40m indoor riding arena, large outdoor arena, cross country paddock and off road hacking around the extensive estate.

During the course you will undertake commercial experience and work experience developing your skills to an industry standard.

Guided by our specialist staff you will develop theory knowledge and practical skills in key areas of the equine industry as well as getting the opportunity to go on trips and have expert guest speakers come and give their insight.

In the second year of the course you will have the opportunity to select your chosen stream of Equitation or Yard Management to develop towards specific careers.

Guided by our expert lecturers you will advance your knowledge of horse management, routine and competition care. Through theoretical and practical learning you will develop knowledge of preparing horses for competition, horse behaviour and maintenance as well as equine science and health and disease.

This is a full time course taking place on three days per week from 9am - 4:30pm. There will be a mix of practical and theoretical work which are split into 1 hour - 1.45 hour lessons.

Vocational and professional qualifications are taught through college based theory and practical lessons with further learning and understanding developed via directed self-study.

Assessment consists of internally set coursework and assignments which are a mixture of theory and practical assessment.

The Level 3 Diploma has two externally assessed exam modules over the two years.

Students either progress onto Higher Education, commonly in the Equine Sector, or they move into a job within the industry in their chosen specialism.

This may be working in a competition yard, rehabilitation yard or an office based equine role or apprenticeship.

Four GCSEs at 9-4 (A* - C), preferably including English or Maths.

Learners applying for this course will be required to take part in a practical assessment and an initial Biology assessment before the start of term.

Please note that for the welfare of our horses there is a 13 stone weight limit for riding.
