You will work with an external construction industry employer to apply your knowledge and develop your technical skills in a real-life construction workplace.

Year 2 is made up of two key parts:

1. You will specialise in Electrotechnical Engineering; Studying and practicing this branch of the construction industry will help you to develop specialist knowledge and skills on how to install, commission and maintain electrical and electronic systems.

2. Continuation of your Industry Placement; with an external construction industry employer which will develop your technical skills and apply your knowledge in a workplace environment.

Across year one and two, you will complete at least 45 days in total working in the construction industry, giving you valuable experience in the workplace and employers the chance to see the new talent in their industry.

You will need to come to College equipped with stationery, steel toe capped boots and a hi-vis vest or jacket.

You can find a full equipment list here.

Your week will consist of three full days at College covering practical, theory and research on given topics. You will also need to complete work outside of given College days to complete assignments and work experience.

Similar to A-Levels, the grade you gain from a T-Level is based on your work in school. This makes up 80% of the T-Level and comprises a core component and an occupational specialism. You get a grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction* overall. You get separate grades in each component. The 20% is covered by extended industry placement.

Year 1:

  • Core Assessment: Externally Set Test – Paper 1 and Paper 2 are both graded A*-E.
  • Employer Set Project: Externally assessed project work is graded A*-E.
  • Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a workplace environment.

Year 2:

  • Synoptic assessment to judge how well the competence requirements have been met. Graded: Distinction, Merit or Pass.
  • Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a workplace environment.
