Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs)

HTQs are an exciting option if you are a young person aged 18 or over and living in England, You might be just starting your career or an adult looking to upskill or retrain.

HTQs have been independently tested against standards developed by employers so you can be assured that the skills that you are learning are the skills that employers want. They are approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

The qualifications last between one and two years full-time, with part-time study options also available and the courses are eligible for the same student finance offer as a degree. In some instances the cost of studying a HTQ is paid by an employer.

Why study a HTQ?

These qualifications have been developed to meet occupational standards for each sector. Employers, businesses and certifying bodies within each sector have been involved in the design of the qualifications and therefore you can be assured that the content gives students the specific training, knowledge and skills that their chosen sector needs.

Why are HTQs good for employers?

HTQs can support your employees to gain the relevant skills and knowledge that they need to be able to contribute to your business. They are a route to upskilling your existing workforce, investing in their development and ultimately improving your productivity and business performance.

A HTQ is often available on a flexible study basis, including on-campus and remote learning. This means employees will be able to balance work, home and study much more effectively.

HTQs are also generally lower cost than the traditional degree route and shorter. Students gain recognised, valuable qualifications within a shorter time period.
