"After finishing my Level 2 Diploma I decided to take a year out to focus on my new floristry business and build up my customer base. I felt confident following my first year to step into the industry full time, and I have Sandra to thank for this. After my year out, I returned to Moulton to complete my Level 3 Diploma as I wanted to keep learning.
I’ve been running my business alongside my studies since 2017 and it’s evolving all the time. My husband works alongside me, and we offer all sorts of services, from venue decorating to balloon artistry! I like to call my shop a ‘one stop, flower shop’ for all your floristry needs! We offer a ‘pick your own’ service where customers can pick any flower they like from our florist to incorporate into their own personalised bouquet. Offering this bespoke service is one of our key selling points. I‘ve also just landed a really good contract with a community company based in Northamptonshire and from next year I’ll be working to provide their shops with bespoke bouquets!
We recently invested in a 20ft trailer and next year we plan to venture into mobile floristry. There’s space in the trailer to have consultations with customers and we’ve got all the essentials inside (microwave, fridge!) so we can stay over at weekend shows.
I chose to study at Moulton College as I liked how the course is broken down. We got to focus on one module at a time rather than learning multiple modules at once, and this structure worked really well for me. I have lots of positive memories from my time at Moulton, but my favourite experience was at the Fleurex competition where I came fourth. At that time, I was struggling emotionally and this gave me a much-needed boost. It improved my self-confidence and made me realise ‘I can do this!’ and spurred me onto complete my studies, qualifying with a distinction certificate.
