Stonemasonry has existed for centuries producing many architectural wonders. Our stonemasonry courses provide you with skills to continue this art form.

If you’re interested in a future career in stonemasonry, conservation, restoration or construction, our stonemasonry courses provide you with the skills and professional knowledge you need for you to enter the industry. Our stonemasonry courses offer a platform to progress into further education and prepare you for your career.

Our stonemason training courses introduce you to a range of stone carving methods so that you are prepared to enter the industry with the practical skills to be a successful and confident craftsman/craftswoman. You will start your training at Level 2 and progress through to Level 3, expanding your skills and knowledge as you work through the levels.

At Moulton we have strong industry links, providing you with the opportunity to gain commercial experience at Exeter Cathedral – a fantastic opportunity to support your college education and put your stonemasonry skills to practice.

Guided by our expert staff, you’ll access our state-of-the-art workshops, with training facilities and modern machinery. You will develop your knowledge in the complexities of restoration, stone carving and letter cutting. You will also gain a thorough understanding of how construction sites are run, learning from lecturers who have experience working within the stonemasonry trade.

Our strong industry links provide students with the opportunity to complete two weeks work experience at Exeter Cathedral – completed in 1400 and boasting stunning features including a vaulted ceiling, a set of misericords and an astronomical clock! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to put their stonemasonry skills into practice.

There are opportunities to do additional training in letter-cutting and stone-carving, as well as carrying out work experience with local stonemasons and also entering national skills competitions. The department is supported by frequent visits from the Worshipful Company of Masons and other members of the profession.
